Mijn krant schreef over ‘de val van dirigent Bernard Haitink’. ‘Wat!? #HeToo?’,  flitste het meteen door mijn hoofd. Maar het bleek dat hij gewoon was gevallen, direct na een optreden. Op zijn leeftijd is dat een drama, natuurlijk.

Condooms, broodroosters, wasknijpers, schoenveters, bh’s, deodorant, tuinslangen. Waar gaat dit heen? Fietspompen, koffiefilterhouders, kurkentrekkers, sokken, rietjes, deurbellen, eierkokers, oordopjes, waslijnen, naalden, fietsbellen, deurmatten… En zo kan ik nog wel even doorgaan. Van al deze voorwerpen wordt op internet een ‘slimme’ variant beschreven. Fietsbanden, bloempotten, zonweringen, schoenzolen, paraplu’s….

If the city of the future is 'smart', what do we call cities that do not meet that criterion? Nicholas You, director of the Guangzhou Institute for Urban Innovation in China, was unequivocal on the matter during a conference in Singapore: cities that refuse to take the 'smart' course are simply 'stupid'.
