The internship platform, called ‘Internships in the Valley,’ was initiated by Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Neelie Kroes, former representative of StartupDelta. It was launched during a visit to Silicon Valley by Minister Kamp in the beginning of 2017. The internship platform connects talent from Dutch universities with US tech companies. The Consulate General of the Netherlands in San Francisco actively looks for interested companies and matches them with students in the Netherlands. The aim of the platform is to enable students in the Netherlands to work for top companies in Silicon Valley, and simultaneously show US companies the high level of education of students in the Netherlands.
Several students have already been matched with American companies through the platform, landing internships at Jaunt VR, LinkedIn, DUPONT and Apple. Consul General Gerbert Kunst: ‘’Nothing tops Silicon Valley: this is the Champions League. Dutch students are known for having a global mindset and a pragmatic approach, which is highly appreciated in Silicon Valley. For the students themselves, this is an extremely valuable opportunity: an internship in the Valley is the perfect investment for your future career.
The internship platform is currently being expanded. In the near future, students will be able to apply for internships at big tech firms, and with incubator or accelerator in Silicon Valley.
During the application process, the Consulate General is available to help and support students with all the practicalities, such as visa applications, housing and contact with the SF-community.
