In line with the United Nation's millennium goals and the involvement of the European Union, a symposium dedicated to EU-African development relations and policies will take place in the Vrijhof building on November 13.
The day-long symposium features guest speaker Mr. Paulus Schildkamp from Europe Aid, the European Commission. In cooperation with the UT Centre for European Studies and Partnership for Change, the newly established House of Europe in Hengelo is partnering together to sponsor the event.
Dr. Angela Meyer and Gregor Giersch, working together on projects for the Europe Commission at the Organization for International Dialogue and Conflict Management in Vienna, will conduct one of the workshops at the symposium, focusing on the importance to involve civil society to promote renewable energies in Africa.
In their workshop, they want to raise awareness on the strategies of a civil society in relationship to development of policies: “The involvement and cooperation with civil society is of crucial importance in order to avoid top-down approaches that will not fit and consider the situation, needs and concerns of the people on the ground.”
Staff and students can still register for the symposium until November 7. Send an email request to the House of Europe to subscribe: [email protected]
