“This festival does not only want to show all the different sides of Indonesian cuisine, but also to provide an insight into the Indonesian culture,” explains Ertika. “We want people to feel as if they were on an actual street in Indonesia and let them taste authentic Indonesian street food. But not only that – there will also be acoustic bands performing, visitors can participate in different games and there will be something for dance lovers.”
Different sides of Indonesian cuisine
Dwi continues: “There will be 8 stalls, each one offering different meals and snacks. We wanted to feature meals from all around the country and let people know that Indonesian cuisine is more than just sate. There will be many things to choose from, including vegetarian dishes. Aside from the more traditional dishes, the festival will also present some innovative meals, so even the Indonesian people in Enschede can taste something new.”
Authentic experience
And who will prepare all the lovely food? “Everything will be cooked by people from the Indonesian community in Enschede and students from UT. They will basically cook regular meals they eat at home,” answers Nanda. The authenticity of the experience will also be accomplished by the settings – the event should take place outside, because in Indonesia people usually eat street food “picnic style” on the ground. “So it would be fun for people to bring a blanket and have their own picnic,” says Ikhsan.
Presale
One big meal at the festival will cost 5 EUR and a snack will go for 1,5 EUR. People can buy coupons at the entrance, but Ikhsan explains that you can even buy them upfront: “We expect about 250 people to come and it might happen that dishes sell out, and so we will offer presale of the coupons. Then people can pay upfront and be sure to get a meal. For more details visit our Facebook page, where you can also find a list and description of the different meals we will serve.”
