Having lost a few court cases, the Education Executive Agency (DUO) is having to change its course with regard to European students. They are now more likely to be granted student financing. The government is studying the consequences.
Geen wonder dat studenten wegblijven bij fysieke colleges, zegt vicevoorzitter Joshua de Roos van de Landelijke Studentenvakbond. Het hoger onderwijs moet volgens hem meer ruimte bieden voor ‘diepgaande discussies en persoonlijke ontwikkeling’.

Jan Willem Polderman, opleidingsdirecteur van Industrial Design Engineering en docent bij Applied Mathematics, gaat op 9 juni fysiek en mentaal de uitdaging aan. Hij probeert driemaal op één dag fietsend de Mont Ventoux te beklimmen, om geld op te halen voor onderzoek naar ALS, de ziekte waar onder meer oud-UT-collega Tom Mulder aan leed.

De UT-opleidingen moeten de eerste twee kwartielen van het aankomende collegejaar 20 procent van hun onderwijs ‘op een andere manier’ organiseren. Dat komt door de groei in studentenaantallen de afgelopen jaren en het daarmee gepaarde capaciteitsgebrek aan onderwijsruimtes.
In the first two quartiles of the coming academic year, the UT programmes will have to organise 20 percent of their education ‘differently’. This is due to the growth in student numbers in recent years and the associated lack of capacity for educational facilities.
