The charging stations are located in de Horst, Spiegel, Hal B and the Bastille and each have ten cabinets: four for iPhones (with both old and new connection), four for phones with a micro-USB connector, one for iPads and one for a different kind of tablet. The cabinets can be locked with a key, as long as there is actually a device connected to the charger.
According to Roy Juninck, who led the project on behalf of the Facility Department, the charging stations with quick chargers are the best solution for an increasingly important problem.
Juninck: ‘We are increasingly dependent upon mobile devices. So it's nice when you can fully charge your device within thirty minutes.’
Facility Department service
The creation of charging stations at the UT was the Facility Department's own idea and it has therefore paid for the new equipment.
‘Similar equipment is becoming more and more common in restaurants and shops,’ explains Eveline Kuypers from the Facility Department.
‘And although we do not necessarily have the money available for this, we saw ourselves as the appropriate party to arrange such a service for the UT. It is therefore an extra facility that we have added to the existing services we provide at the UT.
