SLICE3D, which in fact stands for Slovenian Centre of Excellence on 3D geodata, is a one-year project financed through Horizon 2020. Its main objective is to set up the Centre of Excellence in Slovenia, dedicated to geo-data acquisition and 3D/4D geo-data modelling. The Centre itself aims to focus not only on scientific research and education, but also on bringing research results to industry and society.
The University of Twente is one of the members of the SLICE3D consortium, which is coordinated by the University of Ljubljana and otherwise includes the Surveying and Mapping Authority of the Republic of Slovenia, SME XLAB d. o. o., Fondazione Bruno Kessler from Italy, KU Leuven from Belgium, Valorisation from the Netherlands and Swisstopo from Switzerland.
The goal of the one year long project is to form a scientific strategy and a business plan for the Slovenian Centre of Excellence, as well as to develop strong cooperation between the involved partners, and therefore establish knowledge transfer and strengthen research and innovation capacities in Slovenia.
