This new campus addition represents the next phase of the Living Smart Campus project ‘Solar powered e-bikes’, which the UT started last year with the goal of testing the bikes’ efficiency and user satisfaction.
The new solar station can be used by six e-bikes at the same time, allowing their users to charge their bikes while they are at work or studying. By doing so, the users can test this new charging technique and contribute to the above mentioned research project.
UT researcher Angèle Reinders, who is also one of the main initiators of the ‘Solar powered e-bikes’ project, designed the charging station. Reinders collaborated with the Department of Design Production and Management and the Department of Transport Studies, as well as the Facility Management and Twente based companies Bordbusters, Zelziuz and IpsumEnergy.
Would you like to give the solar station a try? You have a chance. More participants are required for testing the new charging station. If you are interested, please contact UT researcher Georgia Apostolou.
