The Self Driving Challenge is an annual event started in 2019 by RDW. Each year, student teams from various Dutch universities and universities of applied sciences race against each other’s autonomous racing karts. The goal of the competition is to ‘offer young talent the chance to further develop their skills in the field of smart mobility’.
Six teams, including one from the UT, will compete in next year’s edition of the challenge. The student teams will be formed in January and will then have six months to develop software for their electric kart. The finale will take place in June 2023. The team, whose vehicle makes it around the track the fastest – and on its own -, will be crowned the winner.
In the Self Driving Challenge 2023, the UT will compete against teams from the University of Groningen, Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen, Windesheim University of Applied Sciences, Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences and The Hague University of Applied Sciences.
