The Tosti Talks initiative began several months ago and these lunch gatherings have taken place in (or near) the DesignLab every week ever since. Today was the last Tosti Tuesday of this academic year. What has been the reason for these weekly sessions? ‘It started as a way of getting people together and then we decided to spice it up a bit,’ says Alexandra Batea, who is one of the main organizers of the events together with Lisanne de Weert.
From mushrooms to leadership
‘The goal has been for people to interact and learn about interesting subjects they would otherwise not know about,’ continues Batea. ‘The DesignLab already had the Tosti Tuesdays, when students would just come together to eat tostis. We added the Tosti Talks to this existing concept. During these short talks, people are welcome to introduce any subject. They can talk about their passions, interests or cool projects. So far we have covered all kinds of topics – from mushrooms to leadership.’
Tosti Tunes
Although these lunch events have been mostly attended by people associated with the DesignLab, anyone is welcome to join. ‘We are definitely open to ideas. Everyone can participate,’ says Alexandra Batea. ‘On each Tosti Tuesday we have one talk, which usually lasts 15 or 20 minutes, and afterwards there is time for discussion. The topics of the talks need to be run by us, but there are no real limits. Simply, if you are passionate about something and want to share it, this is the place for you. Today, for example, we organized a ‘Tosti Tunes’, so there is live music instead of a presentation.’
Did you miss the last Tosti Tuesday of this year? No worries, the weekly events will return in September. You can follow the DesignLab on social media to learn more.
