Debate about smoke-free campus on Monday

| Redactie

In collaboration with Studium Generale, U-Today will host a debate about the campus smoking ban during this Monday’s lunch break at the Vrijhof Amphitheater. Panel members will be UT vice-president Mirjam Bult and BMS researchers and addiction experts Marloes Postel and Marcel Pieterse.

As of the 30th of March the entire campus, except for the student housing area, will be a smoke-free zone. Mirjam Bult will start by explaining why the executive board took this decision. Marloes Postel and Marcel Pieterse will talk about their research among smokers on campus.

Since this is a debate, there is more than plenty of room for discussion – especially with the audience, based on statements like: ‘Mind your own business and don’t interfere with people’s personal lives’, ‘It will be almost impossible to maintain the smoking ban’ and ‘When I catch someone smoking, I’ll definitely say something’.

The debate will start at 12:45 at the Amphitheater (Vrijhof) and will be led by Maaike Platvoet (editor-in-chief U-Today) and Peter Timmerman (director Studium Generale).
