At the end of last week, the Kick-In committee and other stakeholders made a decision: the introduction concert will not take place this year. ‘It was not feasible to wait any longer', says Julia Hubbert, chair of the Kick-In committee. ‘With the new rules, a maximum of 750 people are allowed, while normally 7000 people come to the introduction concert. That is just not cost efficient. You can see that several other festivals in the Netherlands will not take place under these conditions.’
The committee is still looking at alternatives, such as an outdoor party in collaboration with Aspen Valley. There will also be a beer tasting in the festival tent on the campus. Hubbert is confident that the freshmen will get a good substitute for the concert. 'We have to switch things around a little bit, but it's going to be a lot of fun either way,' she says.
