The owner of the car, a UT employee, initially tried to save her car herself. 'I wanted to look for a fire extinguisher, but I couldn't find it so quickly.' The reason for the fire is unclear. 'There was probably a short circuit somewhere,' she says. While she emotionally watched the scene in the parking lot, the police declared the car a total loss.
Another car, which was next to the burned-out vehicle, was also not unharmed and suffered damage to the body. The motorist of that car immediately noticed something when parking. ‘When I drove into the parking lot, the alarm of that car went off. At that moment there was nothing wrong, but I knew who the car belonged to and warned her.' Back in the parking lot, the damage was already done. The car was soon ablaze and could not be saved.
