EEMCS-faculteit vult twee Hypatia-leerstoelen

De faculteit EEMCS (Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science) heeft twee Hypatia-hoogleraren aangesteld. Het gaat om Anna Sperotto en Maria Vlasiou. De Hypatia-leerstoelen bestaan sinds 2018 met als doel het aandeel vrouwelijke hoogleraren te verhogen.

The number of female associate professors at the UT is low compared to other universities. While the national average is 29.4%, only 17% of all UT associate professors are women. ‘We need to consider this with great care,’ says Vanessa Magnanimo, chairwoman of Female Faculty Network Twente (FFNT).

UT op helft beoogd aantal Hypatia-leerstoelen

Vijf Hypatia-leerstoelen zijn twee jaar na de start van het programma gevuld, zo blijkt uit een evaluatie. Daarmee haalt de UT niet het streven van tien nieuwe vrouwelijke hoogleraren per 2020. Rector Thom Palstra zet in op uitbreiding van het programma.

‘You need confidence to survive in the male world’

Professor Bojana Rosic (36) is the first scientist to be appointed for the female-only Hypatia chair at the UT. ‘I was a bit reluctant to apply, but I decided to take the position as a challenge. I want to encourage girls to study engineering,’ says the Professor of Applied Mechanics and Data Analysis at the ET Faculty.

Alleen vrouwen werven wil de UT niet

Op de UT is het niet nodig om alleen vrouwen te werven voor wetenschappelijke posities, vindt rector Thom Palstra. Die maatregel neemt de Technische Universiteit Eindhoven wel, zo maakte zij gisteren bekend. Ook het Ambassadeursnetwerk van de UT staat niet achter dit wervingsbeleid.

‘Experiment’ to find female professors for Hypatia chairs

During a lunch held by FFNT (Female Faculty Network) yesterday, Dean of the EEMCS faculty Joost Kok shared the unique approach the faculty took to fill the Hypatia positions. ‘We decided to hire QSXL company. They conducted a market scan and helped us identify specific countries to concentrate on.’

Faculteitsraad EWI oneens met werving vrouwelijke hoogleraren

De faculteitsraad van EWI ziet het niet zitten om coûte que coûte een vrouwelijke hoogleraar te werven. Dit negatieve advies gaf de raad eind juni aan decaan Joost Kok. Maar die gaat er niet in mee. Hij vindt een betere genderbalans belangrijk.
