Twentse Thestrals winnen opnieuw NK

UT-zwerkbalvereniging Twentse Thestrals werd afgelopen zondag voor het derde jaar op rij Nederlands kampioen. Naast het nationale kampioenschap, wonnen de studenten ook een ticket naar het Europees kampioenschap, komend voorjaar in het Italiaanse Brescia.

Quidditch: Beuken, gooien en scoren

Beuken, gooien en scoren. Het is in een notendop hoe het er aan toe gaat in de relatief nieuwe sport, quidditch. Dit weekend is de European Quidditch Cup in Warschau, waar ook de UT-vereniging Twentse Thestrals aan mee doet. ‘We willen in de top acht eindigen.’

‘Beste toernooi ooit’

Elke week strijden UT’ers om de overwinning. Soms op topniveau, soms in de kelderklasse en alles daartussen. In deze ‘wedstrijd van de week’ Quidditch-team Twentse Thestrals die afgelopen zondag in Utrecht eerste zijn geworden in de Europese kwalificatie en daarmee een ticket naar het Europese kampioenschap in Warschau bemachtigden. Aan het woord is perswoordvoerder en keeper van Twentse Thestrals, Lars van den Broek.

Twentse Thestrals win Dutch Quidditch Cup

The Dutch Quidditch Cup took place on the UTrack athletics field on campus the past weekend. Six teams from all over the Netherlands battled it out to earn the coveted award, including our own Twentse Thestrals. In a nerve-racking final, they ultimately managed to catch the Snitch and secure the win.

‘We are aiming for the gold’

Twentse Thestrals, the quidditch team based at the UT, are currently in the lead of the national league. They will also participate in the Dutch Quidditch Cup, which will take place at the UT campus on the 26th – 27th of May.

De Twentse Thestrals zijn een nieuw sportteam, opgericht door UT-studenten. Ze spelen Dreuzelzwerkbal, gebaseerd op de fictionele sport uit de Harry Potter-boeken. En nee, dit is geen grap.

Muggle Quidditch in Enschede

Twentse Thestrals are a new sports team founded by students of the University of Twente. They play Muggle Quidditch. No, this is not a joke. Quidditch is not only a fictional game from Harry Potter books. Since 2005, it is also a real-life sport played by real muggles (non-magical folk) all over the world. It has broomsticks, it has a quaffle, bludgers, the golden snitch, beaters... Sounds interesting? Then sign up. Twentse Thestrals are currently looking for new team members.
