Boosting the blue economy

When Salman Shahzad arrived to the University of Twente in 2017, it was his first trip abroad from his home country of Pakistan. A year later, he acquired a Master’s degree in Energy and Environment Management and began searching for opportunities in the field of social entrepreneurship. As a non-European, he struggled to find a job and decided to start his own company. Now he is a project manager of In-No-Plastic, a large EU funded project focused on the removal of marine plastics and litter.

Amper vier jaar na oprichting gebruiken zo’n 2,5 miljoen programmeurs het platform van Bas Buursma en Ives van Hoorne (beiden 24 jaar) om nieuwe codes te schrijven en te delen.

Marcel Belt (56) calls himself Chief Soap Officer at his business The Green Soap Company. The Business Administration alumnus has been paving the road to success with his sustainable and environmentally friendly soap since 2015. These days, the company earns four million euros in revenue. Being a true family man, he was inspired by his three daughters to make his part of the world a bit better.

UT alumnus Daan Dohmen launched Corona Check app

Daan Dohmen, UT alumnus and an entrepreneur in healthcare, has launched the ‘Corona Check’ app through one of his companies Luscii. This app allows you to check yourself for COVID-19 symptoms and directly connects you to medical professionals. Open Access data from the app will also be analyzed by a UT team.

Jonathan Bennink, Design Manager for LEGO and UT alumnus Industrial Design Engineering, talked about how he paved his path to get a job at LEGO and what lessons he learned on the way. The online lecture was hosted by the DesignLab and the UT Alumni Office yesterday afternoon.

They met in class in 2007, when they were both students at the UT. They fell in love, stayed together and graduated in the same week. Now married, Anne Steins (32) and Lex van Loon (31) are about to move to the Australian National University, where they will do research on space medicine and help to implement the field they both studied - Technical Medicine.
