UT student Dimas Harry Priawan has reached the final of the Shell Ideas360, a worldwide competition for ‘game-changing ideas for tackling energy, water and food issues’. His irrigation pump is one of the five best ideas out of 600 entries.

Dimas is studying environmental and energy management. He designed a modular irrigation pump that can improve productivity, crop yield and income for farmers. ‘UniPump’, as the invention is called, specifically aims to help people at the bottom of the social pyramid.

Dimas invented the UniPump together with Januardy Djong (student at the TU Delft). They are the only European team that has reached the final of the Shell Ideas360. On May 14^th Dimas pitches his idea to a panel of judges in Amsterdam. The other finalists are from Australia, Canada, India and Singapore.

Deeltijdhoogleraren Jean-Paul Lange en Arian Nijmeijer zijn ruim tien jaar verbonden aan de UT, maar werken het grootste deel van de week voor Shell. Hun aanstelling is een voorbeeld van de vele samenwerkingen die de UT met de fossiele industrie onderhoudt. Hoe kijken deze hoogleraren aan tegen de steeds luider klinkende roep om alle banden met Shell te doorbreken, en wat doen ze eigenlijk precies?

In a week of climate protests, activists from Fossielvrij NL posted an online petition on Wednesday. They claim that the motives of companies in the fossil fuel sector run counter to the values of the academic community. The initiator of the petition is Guus Dix, assistant professor at the UT.

Climate activists disrupt Shell excursion study association

This morning, climate activists blocked vans behind the Horst with which student association Isaac Newton were to go on an excursion to a Shell refinery. After half an hour the demonstration organized by University Rebellion, Scientist Rebellion and Extinction Rebellion came to an end.
