The MESA+ Meeting is an annual symposium meant to showcase various projects and programs of the MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology. The event’s program included lectures, networking sessions, a poster competition and also aforementioned award.
Loes Segerink: the winner of Dave Blank Outreach Award
This year’s Dave Blank Outreach Award, consisting of €1.000 to be spend on outreach activities, was given to Loes Segerink. Since the beginning of her PhD research, Segerink has been a highly communicative researcher and she has actively presented her research - developing a test for the fertility of sperm – in various media.
The jury of the Dave Blank Award decided to award the prize to Loes Segerink because of multiplicity and diversity of her media performances, her enthusiasm in these performances and the inspiring manner she draws (inter)national attention to her research, and therefore is a role model for other young researchers.
Poster Prize and Business & Development Prize
A poster competition was also held at yesterday’s MESA+ Meeting. The main David Reinhoudt Poster prize 2016 was awarded to Nano Ionics Group (Ab. F. Nieuwenhuis, Jin Cui, Serge G. Lemay) presenting their work on ‘Detecting water-soluble conducting polymers at nanogap electrodes’. The second place belonged to Physics of Interfaces and Nanomaterials Group and the third prize went to the Materials Science and Technology of Polymers Group.
The Business and Development Prize has made its comeback at the MESA+ Meeting this year. This award is given to the group or individual that has best represented the impact of their research in the poster. The winner was Jannke Dickhout for research ‘Understanding membrane fouling in produced water treatment’. This research offers a solution for more efficient separation of water and oil.
Strategic Stimulation Call 2016
Many other MESA+ employees had a reason to celebrate yesterday. MESA+ has recently invited its researchers to submit research ideas in the Strategic Stimulation Call 2016. This call is meant to stimulate research initiatives that contribute to the MESA+ long term strategy, strengthening the current multidisciplinary application areas ‘Unconventional electronics’, Early diagnostics & sensing’ and ‘Storage and conversion of renewable energy’, or exploring possible new areas in research or application.
The beneficiaries of the MESA+ Strategic Stimulations Call were announced at the MESA+ Meeting on the 26th of September, 2016. The full list of beneficiaries can be found here.
