Jiska Chang was named the most active student of the UT. Jury member and former UT rector Frans van Vught complimented her by saying she’s ‘the woman that seems to run the university on her own.’ Chang, a master’s student Industrial Engineering and Management, has racked up an impressive resume of activism activities during her studies. Including but not limited to chairing for university council party DAS and being transport manager during the Kick-In. ‘I am super happy and a little bit overwhelmed that I have won this award,’ says Chang. ‘The jury described activism as stepping out of your comfort zone. Personally, I tend to disagree with this view; I can honestly say that I have made activism my own comfort zone.’
In total, there were nine categories, ranging from ‘most active student’ and ‘most active first year student’ to the Jan Schuijer Culture Award. The winners were decided by both the audience (because of technical flaws based on votes that were cast before the event) and the jury. This jury consisted of UT alumnus Eelco Eerenberg (councilman of the municipality Enschede), Cindy Marsman (Novel-T) and Frans van Vught (former Rector Magnificus of the UT).
