Veldkamp was dean of the ITC faculty for the past ten years. In April he handed over the baton to Freek van der Meer. Under his leadership, the former educational institute made the transition to becoming a UT faculty. In addition to the necessary administrative experience, Veldkamp has earned his spurs as a scientist. Before coming to the UT, he was professor of Soil Inventory and Land Evaluation in Wageningen since 2002, where he also obtained his PhD.
In January Palstra announced his intention to retire as rector after one term. A few months later, the UT named Tom Veldkamp as his successor.
