'Welcome to the top technological Twente', alderman Arjan Kampman got straight to the point. The alderman - who spoke on behalf of the college during the meeting - does not think the installation of the digital locks is undesirable. The college also did not consider the use of the app on the smartphone undesirable. He emphasized, however, that the collected personal data may not be used for other purposes. 'Veste Wonen assured us that the registered data will only be used for the operation of the technological systems. Or at the request of the police in case of security issues,' said Kampman.
Wait and see
Almost the entire city council finds the introduction of the digital locks undesirable. They therefore asked Kampman several questions about installing digital locks.
The college also indicated that it is following the developments and is being informed by Veste Wonen. According to the alderman, the housing corporation will still be in talks with the central residents' council. Kampman indicates that he wants to talk to the parties involved if necessary. 'But based on what we know now, we as a board assume that Veste Wonen can answer the ethical questions itself. For now, we'll wait and see', was his answer.
Erik Kemp, of the Volt party, did not agree with the alderman's answers. He announced that he would submit a motion.
