The minor was developed by the BMS faculty in collaboration with the Technical Medical Center and DesignLab. For years, researchers from various faculties within UT have been working on solutions for health issues in different stages of women's lives.

With the minor, UT wants to contribute to improving care in the field of women's health. For the duration of ten weeks, students will attend lectures and workshops, as well as complete a group assignment. Topics such as mental health, breastfeeding, menopause, breast cancer, and pelvic organ prolapse are discussed.

The medical and research world still know less about women's health than about men's health. This is because healthcare is mainly geared towards men, which leads to poorer quality of care for women.

At the University of Twente, a multidisciplinary team is working on technological solutions for health issues in different stages of women's lives. Under the name Technology for Women’s Health they conduct research that helps to understand why there are differences between men and women in mental and somatic illnesses, and why women often respond differently to treatments. The knowledge gained is applied to develop new technological tools that improve women's health and well-being.
