Bad weather and unfortunate accidents

As many of you already know, this Saturday UT campus once again served as a location for the finish of the annual Batavierenrace. This year’s race was not blessed with the best conditions, but the brave young runners didn’t give up and at 6pm first of them successfully crossed the finish line at Drienerlolaan at UT campus.

Bad weather

Rain decided to take a very active part in the 42^nd Batavierenrace. Not only that all the contestants got rather wet, but the intended finish line at sintelbaan got flooded and the end of the race had to be moved onto the Drienerlolaan. Because of the hardly ideal conditions the finish of the race was also half an hour delayed.

Unfortunate accidents

Apart from the rain and cold, some contestants also encountered other unpleasant experiences. Local UT/Saxionteam was followed by a series of unfortunate events, and therefore was not able to secure any of the winning spots. On Saturday morning, this team was sent in the wrong direction, which resulted in a rather big delay. On top of that, one of the team members injured her ankle and had to be carried over the finish line and brought to the hospital.

The winners

Batavierenrace always has two sets of winners – one team from the prestigious university competition of the race and one overall winner. The winner of the university competition of 42^nd Batavierenrace was the team from Groningen University – Rug Hanze Runnersworld team, finishing with the total running time of 10 hours, 36 minutes and 19 seconds. Teams from Nijmegen (RU/HAN Batavierenrace team) and Eindhoven (TU/e-Fontys Team) secured the second and third places. The overall winners were contestants from the Aeolus team, coming from Enschede – with the total time of 10 hours and 17 minutes. The team S.N.O.T. de Bierstube Rotterdam came in the second place and team PETER! from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam ended up third.

53e editie van Batavierenrace definitief van de baan

Als er voor 1 oktober geen studenten worden gevonden voor de organisatiecommissie van de Batavierenrace, dan zal de estafetterace in 2025 niet plaatsvinden. Het stichtingsbestuur van de Bata luidt daarover de noodklok.

If no students are found for the organizing committee of the Batavierenrace before October 1, the relay race will not take place in 2025. The foundation board of the Bata is sounding the alarm about this.

Het universiteitsteam van Groningen is de voorlopige winnaar van de 52e Batavierenrace . Deze editie kenmerkte zich door enkele incidenten onderweg, wat leidde tot vier geschrapte etappes.

Laatste etappe Batavierenrace start in Van Heekpark

De 51ste editie van de Batavierenrace gaat over ruim anderhalve maand – op 28 en 29 april – van start. Het belooft met zo’n 8.500 lopers een klassieke Bata te worden. Grootste verandering: voor de laatste herstart wordt de Oude Markt ingeruild voor het Van Heekpark in Enschede.

The 51st edition of the Batavierenrace will commence in just over a month and a half, on the 28th and 29th of April. With some 8,500 runners, everything points toward it becoming a classic Bata. The biggest change: for the final restart, the Oude Markt will be swapped for the Van Heekpark in Enschede.
