Coop Vandaag (Coop Today), as the new supermarket will be called, fits better with the ‘fast life’ of the current student, says owner Tasos Tzinoudis. ‘The new store is similar to the Spar City in the center of Enschede. We offer many products for direct consumption, such as sandwiches, fresh meals, pizzas, smoothies and a yoghurt bar. In addition, the new Coop will have a liquor store. Before, that was not yet on campus.’
Parcel point and self-service checkout
According to Tzinoudis, the product range is not getting smaller. ‘We will get other products. The prices are not going up either. The new range fits better with the needs of our time: trendy and hip. In addition, the store will have four self-service checkouts where customers can pay for their own groceries and a PostNL parcel point to collect and return packages. When I became the owner three years ago, this new concept was my plan for the campus supermarket.’
The store will be completely stripped from next Wednesday. ‘We have been trying to get rid of the fresh articles for a few weeks now,’ says Managing Director André Ensink. ‘I am confident that we will open again on the 25th of July. Thirty people will be working on the renovation. The supermarket industry is skilled at it. It is all planned on a super tight schedule.’
Coop Vandaag will open its doors on Thursday 25th of July at noon. It will be a silent opening, Ensink says. ‘The official opening of the new store is after the summer holidays, on the 2nd of September.’ Tzinoudis adds: ‘It will be a bit crazy, but that will remain a surprise for the time being.’
