No traditional end to the academic year

The traditional informal closing of the academic year – usually held in the first week of July – has been cancelled due to austerity measures. However, the Executive Board will send a message to all staff and students.

For several years now, the UT has been closing the academic year with an informal get-together at the U Parkhotel. Before that, this was always done in the garden of the Faculty Club. No expense was spared: the closing was always accompanied by live music, food and drinks. This year, the Executive Board has opted for a different set-up due to the UT’s financial situation.

'The Executive Board will send a message to all staff and students. This will be by mail, maybe also with a video', says spokesperson Laurens van der Velde. As an alternative to the informal closing, he points to the Summer Sounds festival, which takes place on the Hogekamp square on 5 July. 'It's also a great festival to end the year with colleagues.'
